WEEE Directive

The Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Directive (WEEE Directive) was introduced into UK law in January 2007 by the Waste Electronic and Electrical Equipment Regulations 2006.

The amount of Waste electrical and electronic equipment thrown away in the UK is increasing by about five per cent per year, making it the fastest growing waste stream in the UK. The WEEE Directive aims to reduce the amount of WEEE being produced and to encourage everyone to reuse, recycle and recover it. WEEE also aims to improve the environmental performance of businesses that manufacture, supply, use, recycle and recover electrical and electronic equipment.

For Promenade Music, the legislation aims to make producers pay for the collection, recovery and treatment of waste electrical and electronic equipment so as a supplier of equipment, we must allow customers to return their waste equipment to us, free of charge. As a responsible retailer, Promenade Music has its part to play in the WEEE Directive and to try and reduce the amount of WEEE going to landfill. Most WEEE ends in landfill where lead and toxins can cause soil and water contamination. Recycling helps save our natural resources and reduces the environmental and health risks associated with sending electrical and electronic equipment products to landfill.

Promenade Music will offer our customers free take-back of their WEEE on a like-for-like basis when they buy a new Electrical or Electronic product from us. For example, if a customer bought a new guitar amp from us, we would get rid of their old guitar amp and prevent it from going into a landfill by disposing of it safely. Customers must return their WEEE item to us within 28 days of purchasing their new item. Goods are marked with the WEEE symbol to show that they were produced after the 13th of August 2005, and should be disposed of separately from normal household waste so that they can be recycled.
