Marshall AFD100 Slash 100W Guitar Head - Limited Edition
Only 2,300 Made Worldwide! In stock now!The long anticipated Marshall AFD100 - Limited to just 2300 made.
The amplifier that simply everyone is talking about is finally available to order. The new Slash signature model has been publicly developed over the last 7 months and now you can finally order your AFD100 before they are all gone.
Limited to just 2300 units worldwide this new amplifier captures the true essence of Slash's sound in an amplifier that not only sounds amazing but has a unique custom cosmetic that sets it apart from the crowd.
A dual mode, all-valve 100 Watt head, that revisits the legendary tones of one of, if not the most important, rock albums of the last three decades - G'n'R's Appetite For Destruction. Months of intensive research and development, involving circuit examination and close scrutiny of the original recordings, have ensured that every tonal nuance and characteristic of the fabled AFD Marshall amplifier have been perfectly replicated.
The twin modes - #34 and AFD - are based on two of Slash's legendary tones. The first is taken from Slash's 'modded' JCM800 2203 (complete with stenciled 34 on the side) that he has used since the late '80s. The second provides an additional gain stage and is based on the infamous 'Appetite Amp', widely believed to be a modified 1959 Tremolo from the mid '70s. Both modes provide a unique, harmonically rich, natural valve-driven tone, ideal for thick crunchy rhythm and wild soaring solos alike.
As well as reproducing what is regarded by many as the 'Ultimate Rock Sound', the AFD100 also contains some truly awesome features, the first being Marshall's new electronic power attenuation. By adjusting the HT power and various internal parameters, this incredible feature allows guitarists to precisely adjust the percentage output of the amplifier (between 100% and 0.1%) without losing any of that sought-after AFD tone. No limited wattage choices to click between and no compromising on sound, just smooth and consistent power attenuation that is simple to use and makes the AFD100 ideal for stage, studio and home use.
A highly interactive EQ section of Presence, Bass, Middle and Treble dictates the overall tone of the amplifier, with changes to one affecting the parameters of the others. This allows for a greater range of tonal possibilities, plus a more fluid and dynamic way for guitarists to define their sound.
Five ECC83s provide the pre-amp's up-front tone with a quad of mighty 6550 power valves/tubes driving the AFD100's power amp section. These two stages are governed by the Gain and Master knobs respectively. By using these controls, and depending on your guitar and playing style, it is possible to dial in amazing high-gain Slash tones, classic Marshall crunch, biting bright cleans and everything in-between. Again, the overall output volume can be adjusted via the Power control.
As with traditional single channel Marshall amplifiers, the AFD100 provides two sensitivity input options - one high and one low - with a 6dB difference between them. Either input can be used and is a matter of personal taste. Also, as the guitar signal is present at both inputs, it is possible to 'daisy chain' the AFD100 to another amplifier if desired.
The rear panel features Marshall's familiar speaker output section, with 4, 8 and 16 Ohm impedances all catered for, plus a series Effects Loop. Here users can connect any outboard stomp boxes and/or rack equipment they may have, with the Return Level control allowing them to select the exact amount of effects loop signal desired. If left unconnected, the Effects Loop can also be used as a second Master Volume for attenuating or boosting (up to +10dB) the amplifier. The included 2-way footswitch makes this feature even easier to use as it allows for both Effects Loop on/off toggling and quick #34/AFD mode changes.
A bias/valve fault indicator, self-biasing system and a bias current trim control have also been built into the AFD100, allowing guitarists to monitor the power valves/tubes and correctly configure the bias circuitry for every situation. AFD owners will also be able to customise their power amp section, as a variety of octal pentode or tetrode power valves/tubes can be installed, such as EL34s, 6L6s, 5881s, KT66s, KT77s and KT88s.
Every AFD100 amplifier is hand built at Marshall HQ in the heart of England by Marshall's highly skilled shopfloor staff. The traditional finger-jointed cabinets ate constructed from premium 18mm plywood and are handsanded before being covered. All components, transformers, and valves are loaded into the robust mild steel chassis by hand, ensuring every internal part is precisely positioned and connected. Cosmetically, the AFD100 blends ket characteristics of both an old-school 'seventies' style head and a mighty JCM800. The modern silver panel and matching knobs also pay homage to the 2555 Silver Jubilees on which Marshall's inaugural Slash Signature Series from 1996 was based. Completing the unique livery of this incredible Limited Edition tone machine are classic black Levant vinyl covering, a small vintage script logo and white piping/beading. Before leaving the factory gates each AFD100 is subjected to stringent quality control checks and individual unit tests to ensure that each and every amp is fit for purpose.
There will be two editions of the Slash Signature AFD100 Head: the first being the manufacture of a Limited Edition quantity of 2300 units, which will come complete with a specially designed AFD100 Dust Cover and AFD100 "Owners Club" t-shirt, along with, hand signed Product Completion Certificate of Authenticity. A super limited Special Collectors Edition of only 100 units will also be available in early 2011, deatails of which are yet to be finalised, so watch this space!
Arguably the most anticpated Marshall ever, the AFD100 Slash Signature Series amplifier really does have it all - exquisite rock tone, simple, intuitive features and a sonic seal of approval from one of rock'n'roll's most iconic artists.
