PRS McCarty Sunburst
Arched Maple top, Mahogany body, and neck, rosewood fingerboard, USA-made
Ted McCarty built a legacy that is an inspiration to guitar makers and musicians alike.
PRS are proud to offer this stripped-down American made McCarty model to players seeking traditional humbucking sounds from the 'golden era' of guitar making.
This guitar is the culmination of Ted?s history and teachings. It is an honor to be able to bring this model, bearing his name, to you.
The headstock on the McCarty is PRS's small and compact traditional shape. The face and rear are a dark brown Mahogany, the front also has a large 3 ply black truss rod cover with the McCarty signature in white, and the famous Paul Reed Smith signature in gold script.
The rear has 2 rows of 3-a-side vintage style machine heads with green tulip type buttons, and the hand painted serial number in gold.
The neck and headstock is all a single piece of Mahogany, it's not overly large, a D profile, and the graphite nut has a width of 43mm. The back of the neck has a natural gloss finish showing off a speckly grain below.
The Rosewood fingerboard is unbound, and it has quite a light colour in general with some darker stripes running along the length. The inlays are PRS's favourite Abolone Moons, and the fretwork, as you'd expect, is finished to immaculate standards.
The neck joins the Mahogany body at the 20th fret on the bass side, 21st on the treble, and on this side there is a deep chamfer giving easy access to the upper frets.
The back of the body has the same finish as the neck, glossy dark brown Mahogany, it's fairly plain apart from an L shaped black plastic access plate to get to the electrics, and a bit of rib cage chamfering on the upper bout giving a more comfortable playing position.
The front (top) of the PRS McCarty has a beautiful carved arched Maple cap, it's of a full thickness, 12mm running through the centre, and the sunburst finish shows of the swirly grain and flame appearance.
Along the edges, the Maple has a more natural appearance, giving a contrast between the dark brown back and golden front.
The front has 2 gold speed knobs controling volume and tone, and a 3 way selector switch at the bottom of the guitar. The chunky Nickel bridge is PRS's own design, a combined bridge and tailpiece. The design of this allows for accurate intonation adjustment, should this ever be needed.
The pickups have cream plastic surrounds, and shiny Nickel covers, they are McCarty Treble and Bass humbuckers.
The McCarty plays beautifully, the fingerboard is really easy going, smooth and slippery, great for fast runs and soloing. There is loads of sustain, clarity and power, the guitar is so versatile, the clean channel is bright and characterful on both pickups, the dirty channel has just the right amount of bite to cut through without overpowering anything, lead work here is particularly good.
A great all round US made guitar, versatile with gorgeous looks to boot, a proper players guitar. At this price with a PRS hard case included, seriously good value as well.
