Work Experience

Work ExperienceWork Experience At Promenade Music

If you want a great start in the music industry, you couldn't join a better business than Promenade Music for your work experience.

Over the years we've had some absolutely fantastic work experience people, some who now work here (Steven Wren, James our Saturday lad) and some who have gone on in to the industry like Steven Kemp (of Hard Fi fame), Neil Claxton (AKA Mint Royale & record producer), Helen Bywater (Professional clarinettist and teacher at the RNCM) to name but a few.

To understand more about Promenade Music's culture and values, please read About Us & The Team.

NEW IMPORTANT NOTE: Work experience pupils MUST have their own insurance. They CAN NOT come to Promenade Music on our insurance. We need a letter from the school to acknowledge this fourteen days before work experience begins.

Work experience places are only availavle to Promenade Music's existing customers / customers children.

Because we often have several children wanting to come on work experience on the same week, we offer places strictly on a 'first come, first served basis' on receipt of authorised paper work from school. Work experience is open to students who have a keen interest in Music. We are looking for smart pupils with a good attitude and the ability to already play an instrument. We can offer one student a place per week / per fortnight. Once the pupil has been accepted by us, they will need to tell their school to arrange the paper.

During Work Experience
- Work Times

Pupils will start work at 10.00am and finish at 6:30 pm from Monday to Friday.
If you have a music lesson or other such appointment during the evening or afternoon of your work experience, you may leave early as long as you inform us in your interview and make up the time on our late openings (Tuesday & Thursday till 8.00pm).
- Taks
Pupils will carry out tasks as if they had started work at Promenade Music as a sales junior.
These jobs include cleaning, vacuuming, tuning guitars, handling stock, pricing stock, making tea, washing up etc. However, you may also be given more exciting and interesting assignments to deal with depending on what needs to be done during your time on work experience. You will have the chance to experience working both upstairs in the acoustic instruments and keyboard departments and downstairs in the electric guitar, amp and drum section. You will also probably get the chance to visit the warehouse.
- Drinks
You are free to have a cup of tea or coffee from the kitchen at any time. (at no cost).
- Lunch
You are given half an hour for lunch. You may bring a packed lunch or visit the nearby Spar Shop.
- What To Wear
Dress code is smart but casual.
- Culture
Whatever tasks you carry out, they take place in a relaxed environment with a team of friendly staff that are happy to help should have any queries.
- Opportunity
You will have the opportunity to network and make contacts and put yourself forward for any forthcoming opportunities for paid work that may arise.
