B|Amp Bass Amplifier
The limits are off!

Bergantino Audio Systems has attained and maintained a solid reputation for our quality speaker cabinets since we started out in 2001. However, an often-discussed subject by fans of our cabs is what amplifiers pair best with Bergantino’s respected designs.

Meet B|Amp - a total game changer in the bass amplification world. This state-of-the-art bass amplifier is incredibly flexible and delivers maximum performance in a lightweight, compact, yet simple to use package.

What makes B|Amp unique is that it considers and includes the response of connected speaker cabinets as part of the amplification signal path. This is a completely new approach to bass amplification and is accomplished through our Proprietary Profile EQ System, along with many other important and useful design features. No other bass amplifier on the market has the ability to manage speaker and overall system performance like the B|AMP and at the same time uphold the utmost fidelity we crave for with all our designs.

It’s not just about the Speaker Profile technology though. With built-in drive effects, 4 bands of fully adjustable parametric EQ, an on-board Variable-Ratio Compressor, Preset Storage, USB, Tuner and stacks of power, B|Amp is packed so full of thoughtful and intelligent engineering features that even the most demanding player will be able to get the best from their chosen instrument.

Welcome to the best sounding and most technologically advanced bass amplifier in the world!

Speaker Profiles

For many years we were asked by our fans to produce a Bass Amplifier. Jim’s response was always “the industry just doesn’t need another ‘Me Too’ product with another off-the-shelf power module with just another voiced preamp”.

As a long-time speaker designer, Jim is well aware of the lumpy frequency response of the average bass cabinet out there.  Many musicians try and use the simple EQ of an amplifier to correct their tone, whereas in fact what they are doing is actually trying to correct these anomalies to give a flatter response.

So, we decided to do something much more useful, by allowing you to mitigate issues by closer matching the amp with the cabinet(s). In order to achieve this flatness, the frequency response of a given speaker cabinet must be known. With a complex counteracting EQ curve, the various dips and peaks can then be applied to a signal.

When shipped from the factory, the amp is loaded with a general-purpose profile that should suit pretty much any standard cabinet design out there. But to make this really simple and effective, we have made extremely accurate measurements for most of our own cabinet designs and configurations and you can download these specific Profiles directly from the Bergantino website. Profiles are then easily loaded to the B|Amp via the front USB port and a standard FAT32 thumb drive.

It’s the pursuit of flat speaker response that lies at the core of Bergantino’s Profile concept. In essence loading the correct profile will make you sound better, so you can then get more out of your own instrument’s tone!

Power On Tap
Many brands often rate their amps without real world verifiable figures. The B|Amp features a custom tuned, yet powerful amplifier module and will provide up to genuine 800W RMS power depending on the speaker load. At 8Ω (for example a single small cab) B|Amp will provide 350W RMS, @ 4Ω this is increased to 700W RMS, while at a 2 or 2.67 Ω load the power output goes to 800W RMS.

Speaker impedance of the connected cabinets can also be matched in the software, this allows for optimal power transfer and allows B|Amp to function safely right down to a 2-Ohm minimum load – that’s low for an amp this size!

Drive Me Wild

Incorporating three 'flavours' of a drive software circuit, the Effects Menu allows you to create Overdrive or two types of Distortion tones right inside your amplifier.

Overdrive adds harmonic texture to the circuit, extending the voicing of the B|Amp closer to the tone of a tube amplifier. The Distortion 1 setting is voiced like a tube amplifier driven into clipping, while the Distortion 2 mode recreates a harder-hitting tone, reminiscent of some of the classic pedals we all love.

Any of the three distinct drive tones can be used globally or saved in the memory settings.

Compress Not Depress
The built-in proprietary Bergantino Variable Ratio Compressor (VRC™) was designed to take into consideration the compression needs of today’s bass players and simply take the mystique out of compression to give you a better tone. We know of no other off the shelf compressor available today which can do what the VRC can do and with such ease of use.

With most of the currently available compressors on the market, you have to settle for a fixed compression ratio which makes it difficult, if not impossible, to find the sweet spot between finger style and the more dynamic needs of such playing styles as popping and slapping. Choosing a ratio which evens out the dynamics and thickens the notes for finger style playing will not eliminate or curtail large transients that can be created by slap or pop styles. On the other hand, a compression ratio chosen for countering large dynamic swings will typically squash the dynamics and musicality of regular finger style playing.

With the B|AMP’s VRC, the compression ratio will change dynamically, essentially adjusting itself to the style and needs of your playing. Set up properly, it will give the player a nice even, thick finger style tone while attacking those large, over the top transients, without even having to turn a knob!

The VRC also utilises a parallel architecture post the Effects block in the B|AMP’s DSP architecture to give your notes added thickness and sustain, all without compromising the initial attack of the note.

Total Recall

With the memory storing capability of the B|AMP, a complete tonal scene, including compression, effects and tone EQs (including bright adjustment), can be stored in either of the two memory locations (Mem1, Mem2) for future recall.  This also can be useful when you have 2 different instruments that require totally different settings to get the tone required.

Multifunction EQ Tone and Filters

B|Amp features a fully programmable 4-Band EQ with an adjustable frequency range “Q” control. This enables you to tweak the tone of your instrument to help get closer to the sound in your head.

• Bass: +/- 9dB Variable from 40Hz to 120Hz
• Lo-Mid: +/- 9dB Variable from 150Hz to 800Hz
• Hi-Mid: +/- 9dB Variable from 800Hz to 3kHz
• Treble: +/- 9dB Variable from 3kHz to 8kHz

The Programmable Filters also allow you to tailor the tone even more, enabling additional presence and/or notching out the most troublesome frequencies, which can help reduce potential feedback or stage rumble issues.

• Bright switch:
  +3dB to +12dB in 1dB increments, variable from 2kHz to 10kHz in 500Hz increments
• High-Pass Filter (VHPF):
Adjustable from 30Hz to 80Hz in 2Hz increments
• Feedback filter:
Adjustable from off to -6dB to -12dB in 1 dB increments.
Frequency range from E1 (41Hz) to G3 (196Hz) in half step increments

USB Port

This is where you can load up the custom speaker cabinet profiles (using a regular FAT 32 thumb drive), upgrade the software when we bring new upgrades to the platform or connect it to the B|Amp Bluetooth Switch II kit (*coming soon) for external footswitch control.

Oh and as the USB socket provides power too, it can also be handy to power tablets or charge your phone at gigs while you’re busy playing!

Tune all the way down
Let’s face it, being in tune is an absolute necessity for any bass player.

B|Amp’s ultra-precise on-board Chromatic Tuner is adjustable from A432 to A448 and is right there to see whether you’re in tune or not at a moment’s notice. With a frequency range that is stable down right to the low B fundamental, you can be sure that even your lowest notes will always be in tune!

Helpful Connectivity Features
B|Amp features a myriad of connectivity options to suit many situations.

Dual Speakon outputs allow you to hook up multiple cabinets without daisy chaining.

The built-in studio-quality XLR Direct Output is software selectable Pre or Post EQ. This is ideal for recording in the studio or just for giving the house PA a suitably balanced line signal to work with. In addition, the secondary Line Output gives another option whether you want an additional Pre-amp output or perhaps want to run the amp to an always on external tuner.

For adventurous and creative musicians, effects can add a lot to your sound. With the B|Amp’s effects send and return loop, you can insert these effects directly after the preamp for more artistic tonal options.

The 3.5mm/1/8th” Auxiliary input, with independent gain control, allows you to hook in your phone, computer or an MP3 player for playing along with recorded music or another line level signal, like synths or drum machines for example.

As the B|Amp can actually be safely run without a speaker load, the headphone jack provides a useful personal monitoring and practice solution. This makes it perfect for your late-night practice sessions or when you just don’t want to disturb the neighbours!
