Basswood Body

The FSR MIJ Traditional Mustang features a body made from lightweight basswood, providing a comfortable and effortless playability with a unique tonal density for classic fender tones. The body is finished with chrome hardware and a beautifully vibrant candy tangerine finish, creating a truly stunning and eye-catching aesthetic. The Fender Special Run Mustang also features a floating bridge and dynamic vibrato tailpiece, enhancing string stability and offering a powerful pitch shifting effects.

’’U’’-Shaped Maple Neck & Rosewood Fingerboard
This FSM Made In Japan Mustang features a ‘’U’’ shaped neck profile, which is usually found on thick necks and perfect for guitarists who play with their thump on the back or side of the neck. The maple tonewood provides the Fender with a beautifully bright characteristic, tightening up the overall tone and delivering plenty of cut and bite. The neck is coupled with a rosewood fingerboard to enhance the bass with warm, soft tones, and ‘fur up’ the maple's harsh edges for a sizzling high end and an open midrange attack. The rosewood’s naturally oily surface allows any stray overtones to be absorbed into the pours, offering a natural fundamental tone, while the maple delivers a powerfully sharp punch when the strings are hit hard.

Mustang Single-Coil Pickups
The set if low output single coil pickups provide this Mustang Guitar with a classic jangly tone, which can be heard on hundreds of underground recordings. These vintage-spec pickups provide the FSR Mustang with its beautifully clean, pristine tones, offering an incredible mid and upper harmonic range which cuts through the mix. The punchy low frequencies have become a famed attribute for guitar riffs and thick chord work, and these single-coil pickups can keep up with the harsh tones of alternative music.

Bone Nut
Along with its amazing tone and looks, the Fender FSR MIJ Mustang also features a bone nut which adds to its classic aesthetic. The main purpose of using a bone nut, compared to modern materials, is the bone offers excellent resonance and sustain. A bone nut also delivers a very balanced tone and will last a long time. In addition, this type of nut naturally self-lubricates and helps the guitar to stay in tune for longer.

Fender Japan Guitars

Fender Japan was established as a way for Fender to market their guitars to the Japanese market, allowing for the creation of low cost Fender guitars that still possess the high expectations and build quality of their American counterparts. Japan is often considered to be one of the leading places in the world for guitar manufacturing, although most of the guitars produced are not sold in the UK, the FSR MIJ series allows players to purchase an exceptionally high quality and unique guitar.

The Fender Mustang

Originally introduced in 1964 (an updated version of the Musicmaster and DuoSonic guitars), the Mustang was at the higher end of the affordable student range. It was discontunued in 1982, but due to it's relative cheapness plus excellent playability was adopted by players looking outside the Strat/Tele dominated scene. Tom Price of the U-Men played a Mustang in his Seatle band and that in turn influenced Mudhoney and Nirvana - which influenced even more people! Due to their smaller size and lighter weight, they are also popular with younger players, women - as popularised by Liz Phair - and have a huge fanbase in Japan.

Fender started making them again, originally only in Japan, but later in the USA and Mexico.

They launched a new Fender Offset Series made in Mexico in 2016, and this has also raised the profile of the Mustang even further.
