Music Festivals In The South Lakes
Being based so close to Kendal, we're blessed to have some wonderful festivals on our doorstep including the award winning Kendal Calling festival which was launched in 2006 and has since grown in size and popularity. The festival's attracted acts including British Sea Power (from Kendal), The Wild Beats (from Kendal), Dirty Pretty Things, Grooverider, Dizzee Rascal, The Streets, Mumford and Sons, Doves, Blondie etc. On the other extreme of the music spectrum there's the very successful Mary Wakefield Festival which has been going since 1885 and focuses on classical and choral music. For many years my friend Andrew has run Lake District Summer Music aka LDSM which is a series of small festivals in the Lakes which develops musical focus in communities.
