Keyboard Lessons With Sandie Barker at Promenade Music

1/2 Hour Piano Lesson

Sandie Barker BMus (Hons) ARCM PGCE

Sandie was born and brought up in Bradford. After completing academic and professional qualifications in Music at Lancaster University and Secondary School Teaching at Bretton Hall, Wakefield, she went on to teach music at Morecambe High School, (from where she loved to detour past Promenade Music for a quick browse on the way home!).

Sandie went on to work as a freelance teacher and pianist before returning to the classroom in 2005. Her freelance work included ‘temporarily’ standing in as music teacher for the launch of ‘Music Time’, a pre-school music group . . .  and ten years on she was still leading the group! Having spent many happy years teaching classes and individual lessons at St. Aubyn’s Music Academy, it is with great joy and excitement that she re-joins the Promenade Music ‘family’.

In the interim years, Sandie has built up a vibrant Music Department at Wennington Hall School, she is visiting piano, keyboard, woodwind and brass teacher at Central Lancaster High School, and also organist and choir director at St. Christopher’s Church, Bare. Sandie leads the Northern Lights ceilidh band and sings with Gladly Solemn Sound West Gallery choir. To relax, Sandie loves to walk in our spectacular corner of England, and she keeps on buying books which she hopes to read one day!

Sandie offers tuition in: Piano, Electronic Keyboard, Classical Organ, Clarinet, Aural and Musicianship, GCSE and A’ Level music, popular and classical Music Theory; all from beginner to post-grade 8/Diploma level. As a consequence of part-time teaching for eleven years at a local special school Sandie is convinced of the therapeutic value of music and she is currently supporting her practical experience with academic study on an accredited Music Therapy course. Sandie is an enormously experienced and versatile musician/ teacher, who welcomes working inclusively with students of all ages and abilities. She is passionate about enabling all who wish to play music to achieve their goal no matter how modest or advanced the aspiration.
