David Wood is a British based investor and award-winning musician and businessman who is the founder, chief executive officer and sole-shareholder of Promenade Music. He has a multipotentialite entrepreneurial approach to business, holds the post-nominal letters HonsDMus HonsFDip FRSA DipMusTh AMusLCM and is a passionate supporter of music and the arts.
David established Promenade Music in 1989 and it’s now a successful award-winning independent musical instrument and equipment retail business with “one of the largest and best stocked music shops in the North of England”. The shop is highly respected by customers and has supplied the likes of Neil Claxton (Mint Royale), Alex James (Blur), Slash (Guns N’ Rose), Stuart Zender (Jamiroquai), Chris Joyce (Simply Red); Joe Bonamassa [through Marshall Amps], Sam Fender; Chesney Hawkes, Big Country, and Oasis.
Operating from circa 14,000sq.ft of mortgage free commercial property that David owns in Morecambe, the business is a past winner of the highly prestigious Lancaster City Council’s Award for Business of the Year and offers customers stock from many of the World’s largest musical instrument and equipment manufacturers.
Faith & Hope Records… As well as being the founder of Promenade Music, David is also the co-founder, director and thirty-percent shareholder of Faith & Hope Records Limited, a music company he established [with Neil Claxton] in 1997.
Lancaster University… David is an Honorary Teaching Fellow in the department for Entrepreneurship and Strategy at Lancaster University Management School and is known there as Dr David Wood after receiving a Doctor of Music honoris causa degree from Lancaster University in 2023. David became only the 11th recipient of the award since the formation of the university in 1964 and joined previous honorary DMus recipients: Sir Arthur Bliss, Sir Michael Tippett, Sir John Manduell, Sir Edward Downes, Sir Simon Towneley, Princess Alexandra, Dame Janet Baker, Yan Pascal Tortelier, Witold Lutoslawski and Professor Edward Gregson.
