The cable used for Glenlaw CM FullHz instrument cables
Glenlaw CM FullHz cable is specifically designed and made for musicians who want the full range of frequencies, having a capacitance per metre of 85 picofarads [whereas our LowHz cable is 78 picofarads] and a resistance of 90 Ohms per 1km [LowHz cable is 39 ohms]. It is a single core and screened cable made with oxygen free (high purity) copper. It has a 0.50 mm2 [20 American Wire Gauge] core and 100% shielding [copper spiral braid, tin plated and semiconductor].

The hand-built element of a Glenlaw cable

Glenlaw cables are made to the highest calibre and are tested at every stage of the build process. The soldered connections are weave sleeved prior to final assembly of the connector cable glands. Connections are electrically tested; all screws and clamp glands are secured, and heat-shrink strain relief collars are fitted. As a final test, prior to packaging and shipment, the assembled cable is tested again for electrical continuity and subjected to an audible frequency test to check that the cable meets our quality control standards.

The shielding used for Glenlaw instrument and microphone cables

The shielding in Glenlaw instrument and microphone cables helps minimise ‘signal noise’ and helps to reduce RF interference. The shielding is flexible enough to make the manageable to use and easy to coil.

The weave used for Glenlaw cables
The protective weave used on Glenlaw cables is globally renowned for its leading colour, manufacturing, and base material quality. It's manufactured by top technicians in Germany on the most modern German machines. The weave is made using lead-free base materials (100% recyclable) and through using high quality UV stabilizers and water repellent materials, the cable is protected even when used outdoors. The weave offers excellent rigidity – due to its lengthwise oriented braid construction – which results in a straight or multi-curved cable, that's free of fluctuations. The weave offers an extremely high abrasion resistance and strength, while not sacrificing flexibility.

The connectors used for Glenlaw cables
Glenlaw predominantly use the European made Neutrik connectors*. Neutrik – founded in 1975 – are the world leaders in the design and manufacture of connectors in the music industry. Using state-of-the-art materials and standardised processes, Neutrik make excellent quality and long-lasting dependable professional connectors. [* The only Glenlaw cables that do not have European made Neutrik connectors are the pancake connectors that are used on the Glenlaw patch cables]

The solder used for Glenlaw cables

Glenlaw cables are made using an RoHS [Restriction of Hazardous Substances Directive] compliant lead-free silver solder (rosin free). Using an optimum tip temperature, tip size and flux core diameter, Glenlaw can produce joints that are at least comparable in quality with those that would have been obtained using the old lead-based solder. The solder Glenlaw uses conforms to the purity requirements of both national and international standards.

The solder cleaning agent that is used to clean the solder in Glenlaw cables
All Glenlaw soldered joints are cleaned with a fast-drying isopropyl alcohol cleaner which has a residue on evaporation of 0.002g per 100ml (max). This means there is basically no residue after the solder joint is cleaned.

The heat shrink used for Glenlaw cables
The Glenlaw heat shrink offers the cable and connector protection from dust, heat, humidity, and water ingress. It reduces both stress and strain on the cable and connector, and offers enhanced connection reinforcement, structural support, and integrity. Heat shrink also provides improved appearance and high quality electrical and thermal insulation.

The cable ties used for Glenlaw cables
Glenlaw use BongoTies to keep cables coiled and tidy. BongoTies are Earth friendly, and virtually 100% biodegradable. They are made from highly renewable products including Bamboo – one of the fastest growing plants on the planet – and high quality Hevea rubber. BongoTies are sturdy, reusable and used by music industry professionals all over the world.

About Glenlaw Cables
Glenlaw Cables are a specialist UK-based custom cable maker that designs and hand builds great-sounding high specification cables reliable for both studio and live musicians. They supply lush, clear sounding cables that can endure the rigours of the road. Cables made include the Glenlaw custom specification FullHz instrument cable for full range frequencies, and LowHz instrument cable for lower range frequencies, plus a range of Glenlaw patch, speaker, and microphone cables. There are many factors that influence the efficiency, clarity, detail and build quality of a Glenlaw cable (including conductivity, wire gauge, copper content, type of copper, cable resistance, cable capacitance, RF shielding, cable length, solder, weave and so on) but the key to it all is the choice and mixture of components and the skill of the cable maker. To produce a best-in-class cable that will suit the world's most demanding musicians and technicians, Glenlaw have chosen every component individually and utilised only the finest manufacturing techniques. Everything from the selection of the weave and bulk cable – which is from a specialist company in Germany that was founded by a classical musician and a world-renowned cable engineering leader – to the selection of the connectors and soldering products have all been carefully considered, analysed and tested.
