The YM-6100 is Yamaha’s flagship marimba and the result of forty years of co-operation between Yamaha and the legendary marimbist, Keiko Abe. The culmination of this alliance is embodied in the YM6100 which represents the ultimate in design, construction, and materials. This impressive marimba features carefully aged and specially selected rosewood bars – cut and tuned by hand- that are beautifully crafted with a sturdy pneumatic height adjustment system frame. The Yamaha designers have designed a thing of beauty that resonates with the artist’s mind. A white rail supported on jet-black legs – looking almost as if they were supported on air – and the resonators have a finish that accentuates their solidity. These elements give it an overwhelming presence, even when performing with an orchestra. The YM-6100 features a hollowed-out wooden rail to support the tone bars: to the performer, the bars appear to float, creating an atmosphere in which it is easy to concentrate on making music. At 272cm in length – and weighing 107kg – the YM6100 is very large for a portable instrument but the design supports the weight reliably, and can be assembled and disassembled with ease.

Promenade Music’s view… Only the most select, top-grade rosewood is used for the YM6100. Yamaha has developed a unique tuning system to ensure accurate intonation and matched tone. For height adjustment, a unique compressed gas-spring support system allows quick and easy height adjustment by a single person. This is especially useful in educational settings or ensembles where more than one musician will use the same instrument. The resonators on the lower end are adjustable, allowing a well-focused and balanced tone when changes in temperature and humidity occur. You can adjust them quite easily as the resonafor tubes face outward allowing for easy access. Portability’s great as the lightweight frame is designed to make transport as easy as possible and can be quickly dismantled and reassembled.
