Based in the heart of Devon, PanAmor Handpans is a family business owned by Daryl and Marcia who put their heart and souls into making their amazing instruments. Daryl handcrafts handpans using the finest quality materials and a variety of specialist tools that result in extremely consistent instruments. The handpans are made from ‘Ember Steel’ [sounds somewhere between stainless and nitrided] which is known for its long sustain, ceramic-like sound, and clear warm tone that ensures a deep and resonating musical experience.

PanAmor Handpans have become a top choice for those seeking the highest-quality British made pans that look both beautiful, whilst delivering a wonderful harmonious tone. The drumming legend that is Danny Carey [American musician and songwriter who’s the drummer for the progressive metal band ‘Tool’] said about PanAmor: “They need to be exposed in every venue and genre” and “These pans truly are something special” which is high praise indeed from a percussionist who some regard as one of the most talented on the planet.

Here at Promenade Music, we have chosen to stock the best-selling PanAmor Handpans ‘D minor, D Celtic Scale’ model which is very popular for newcomers, but the ‘D Minor, D Kurd Scale’ and ‘C# Minor, C# Annaziska Scale’ are also popular with newcomers and can be ordered as a special order which will be made within a month from ordering.

PanAmor Handpans was originally born in an old converted pig stye in Totnes (which is in Devon, England). Since the age of 14, Daryl has played percussive instruments and started his journey into handpans like many other handpan makers began, by sinking sheet steel on the top of an oil barrel by hand. His first shells were sunk with kettle bells and tuned in basic rings supported by vices on a pair of speaker stands.

Today, Daryl and Marcia are a great team! As well as being a supportive life partner to Daryl and a “handpan wife”, Marcia manages PanAmor’s artwork, designs, and looks after the hand engraving side of the business… as well as taking care of their website, blogs, videos, photography, social media, emails and communication. Daryl does the making and uses only the finest raw materials to form, sculpture and tune every single instrument that comes out of the PanAmor workshop that’s now based in Exeter (which is still in Devon, England and around 30 miles north of where they started in Totnes).

When buying handpans, please beware of low quality imported handpans that are entering the UK. It depends on what your definition of value is, but we don’t think they offer genuine value for money because – although the price may be attractive initially – the price is long forgotten when you’re playing poor quality sounding handpans that are poorly made and not in tune.

Playing handpans is an investment of your time and a lasting musical experience. This is why you should consider PanAmor Handpans because they offer proper musical instruments and are a small family owned business that use really high-quality materials, offer top-tier craftsmanship to make and tune their instruments. They know exactly what they’re doing and that’s why they’re great value for money.
